If you are looking to explore a pathway into gardening, landscaping or horticulture but want to learn some basics to get you started, this course is for you! With our experienced horticulture facilitator, you will learn a range of theory and practical skills to start you on your pathway to further study or employment.

You can join this course if you are:
- a South Australian resident, or hold a valid work or study visa, and;
- 18 years or older, and;
- not enrolled at school or in a Flexible Learning Options program
- preparing for work or study.

Who is this course for?
This course is suited to people who are looking for a career change, returning to work, or preparing to work with plants. A great introductory course to horticulture, landscaping and gardening.
Use the practical information provided and the support of your instructor and classmates to grow your industry experience and knowledge to help you safely and successfully take the next step into work or study in this field.
Learn in a safe, fun environment whilst improving your skills to help you prepare for further work or study.
What will I learn?
Some of the topics included in this course are:
- Setting up simple irrigation systems
- Basics of greenhouse gardening
- Plant propagation using seeds or cuttings
- Understanding soils and plant nutrients
- Weeds, pests, diseases, and plant disorders
- Simple garden designs
- The dos and don’ts of composting
How will I learn?
This course is provided face-to-face. It may run between 6 to 8 weeks – refer to the individual course details on the registration page.
This course is taught by a Community Learning Trainer who is there to help you in feeling confident. Working alongside them are our Community Learning Mentors who are dedicated to your individual learning journey and can offer one-on-one support if you need it.
