conference

Community Centres SA has committed to providing an annual conference in November from 2021 to 2023. This is for our members and the human services and community sector focusing on emerging trends and themes that impact the work we all do every day.

Each year includes a new theme and provides the opportunity for the sector to network, engage with impactful speakers and take part in workshops. It is the single largest professional development opportunity for our members and beyond to attend.

We like to call our conferences ‘festivals’ because they are a day of celebration!

This Year's Conference:

2022 - Festival of Ageing

The Festival of Ageing will focus on how the sector is responding to an ageing population through celebration, listening and  adaptation as we all move through life’s journeys.

Participants will experience an inspiring Welcome to Country, in depth contributions from top ageing innovators and leaders from around Australia. The day will be filled with networking opportunities, while exploring local case studies via workshops highlighting practical tools to design, build, and deliver inclusivity strategies. It is also a festival of fun using creativity to break down silos, honouring great work in the sector.

We all begin ageing from the moment we are born! It’s time we start treating ageism as the discrimination that it is. From the training of grandmothers in Zimbabwe to combat mental illness, through to keeping our minds active and volunteering throughout our lives – our attitude towards ageing matters.

In November 2022, the Festival of Ageing featured talks by ageing innovators and leaders from around the world, on the ground case studies, workshops, and practical tools to design, build and deliver age inclusive programs. We also had panels with innovators at the forefront of discoveries in ageing and advocates from Dementia Australia to demystify dementia and give practical tips on responding to dementia.

Highlights included opening speaker Minister Nat Cook, a special address from Ita Buttrose, return speaker Nairn Walker and Dr Dixon Chibanda from Zimbabwe. The full 2022 Festival of Inclusion program is still available to view.

Thank you to everyone who was involved and made the day possible!

We know that inclusivity deeply matters. It is a necessary pre cursor to healthy and empowered communities. It is necessary for acceptance, belonging, and being free from stigma and judgment. It is necessary in our workplaces and in our communities. And it’s a whole lot more than diversity. And harder to measure.

In November 2021, the Festival of Inclusion featured talks by inclusivity innovators and leaders from around Australia, on the ground case studies, workshops, and practical tools to design, build and deliver strategies and belonging programmes.

Highlights included opening speaker Robert Fitzgerald AM and question time with Penny Wong. The full 2021 Festival of Inclusion program is still available to view along with photos of the day.

Thank you to everyone who was involved and made the day possible!
